Romare Bearden, Monday Morning, 1967 Some of Bearden's images based on old master paintings remain close in composition to their sources. Others do not. Monday Morning, for example, bears a tangential relationship to a painting by Pieter de Hooch in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Among the elements it shares with the earlier composition are the peak above the window to the left of the chimney, the columns that articulate the facade, and the puffs of clouds moving across the sky. |
